History of Old Trolley Barn

The 1908 Spokane trolley servicing station, also known as the Spokane Traction Company powerhouse, played a crucial role in the city's public transportation system during the early 20th century. As electric trolleys became a popular mode of transport, the need for facilities to support them grew.

The building was designed to house maintenance and repair operations for the trolley cars, as well as to manage power generation for the trolley system. Its location was strategic, allowing for efficient access to various routes throughout Spokane.

Architecturally, the station reflects the industrial style of the time, featuring robust construction that emphasized functionality. Over the years, as automobiles became more prevalent and the trolley system declined, the building's role shifted.

In recent years, efforts have been made to preserve the history of such structures in Spokane, with some being repurposed for modern uses while still maintaining their historical significance. The trolley servicing station stands as a reminder of Spokane's transportation evolution and the early adoption of electric public transit.

The Old Trolley Barn over the years has been used for a myriad of businesses. This iconic old red brick building on East Trent Avenue has a colorful history & many stories to tell.
